Peter Psyhogeos is a junior at Bates College, a NESCAC (New England Small College
Athletic Conference) basketball player. Prior to Bates, Peter led his high school team to a state championship in 2022. He was Maine basketball state champion and conference MVP, tournament MVP and First team All-state. In his senior year he averaged 20 PPG, 10 RPG, 4 APG and 2 steals per game. Also, in high school Peter won 2 lacrosse state championships where he was a standout lefty attack and earned 1 st team all-conference for two years.
Peter Psyhogeos - Bates College.
Peter starts for Bates as a 6’4 guard. He is assigned to defend the best player on the opposing team in every game. He’s been a 2-year starter with career highs of 24 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks. He is averaging 11 PPG, 5 RPG, 1.5 assists, and 1.5 steals/game. He has been selected 2x to the NESCAC all-academic team. Peter is an economics major with a GPA of 3.66. As a regular starter it is expected that he will be selected to the NESCAC College sports communications Academic All-District team in 2025.
Peter’s Yiayia Matina Psyhogeos founded several Greek schools in the Boston area and has written several books about Greece and the Greek language. Most recently she wrote a Lexicon: English Words Deriving from the Greek Language. It includes 25,000 English words derived from the Greek language. This book was dedicated to Peter and his sister. Peter began Greek lessons with his Yiayia at a young age and participated in GOYA basketball league when he was younger. He looks forward to visiting Greece in 2026 after graduating from Bates.
Panos Charitopoulos is a right guard at Husson University in Maine, majoring in Marketing-Communications. He graduated from Bunnell High School in Stratford, Connecticut. In his senior year, Panos earned recognition as a CHSCA (Connecticut High School Coaches Association) 1st team All-State and was named to the Walter Camp 2nd team All-State. Born in Katerini, Greece in 2005, Panos moved to the USA in 2011. He actively participates in the “Pieria’s Society - Olympos” in Whitestone, NY, attending events like the annual dance and summer picnic. Standing 6-1 and weighing 285 pounds, Panos maintains a strong connection to his Greek heritage and seeks camaraderie with other Greek-American athletes.

Marios Charitopoulos is a junior at Bunnell High School in Stratford, Connecticut where he
plays as a linebacker and running back in the SWC (South West Conference). He is a prominent member of the school’s interACT club, which organizes events and fundraising for local schools and communities. Marios received the 1st team All-SWC honors as a linebacker for the 2024 season. Born in Greece in 2008 and relocating to the USA in 2011, he is also involved with the “Pieria’s Society - Olympos” and takes pride in his Greek roots, which he proudly represents both on and off the field. Marios stands 5-10 and weighs 205 pounds.
Both brothers share a deep connection with their homeland, having visited Greece in 2017 and 2022.

Demetri Koutsouflakis a senior at St. Mary’s was named a Boston Globe Football All-
Scholastic for the 2024-25 season. Demetri ran with a combination of raw power, determination, and speed. Koutsouflakis tallied 1,200 yards rushing with 12 touchdowns at 8.5 yards per carry to earn Central Catholic MVP honors. Demetri inflicted much punishment on defenders as a running back and on defense he led the Spartans defense with 60 tackles and three forced fumbles. St. Mary’s would finish with a good 9-2 season.
Demetri was also recognized as a Lynn Item All-Star, Boston Herald Honorable Mention, MIAA All State Honorable Mention and CCL All-Conference. He was also selected to play in the Harry Agganis Bowl and Shriners Bowl Game. His family roots are from Icaria and Vergina Emathias. Demetri has visited Greece and is very proud of his Greek heritage.
Demetri Koutsouflakis - St. Mary’s.
William Baltas of St. John’s of Shrewsbury had an amazing high school career. Baltas a senior and captain of his Pioneers team would lead his team to the Division 1 title game. This season he capped off his stellar career with 16 goals and 8 assists. Baltas was an All-State selection, Boston Globe All Scholastic, Boston Herald All Scholastic, a two-time Catholic Conference All Star, Worcester Telegram Player of the Week, Worcester Telegram All Scholastic and has beenmnominated for Worcester Telegram/USA Today Central MA Player of the Year. For my roots, my paternal grandmother is from Babouri, Epirus and my paternal grandfather is from Agios Demetri Eubia. I was lucky enough to visit my grandmothers village this summer and hope to go again. I go to Saint Spyridon in Worcester Massachusetts and I am an active altar boy there and part of our Goya. I love my heritage and everything I have learned from my grandparents and my father. Both my heritage and my Orthodox faith shaped me to who I am today.

Dimitris Diamantidis along with U20 Greek National Team Coach Kosta Papadopoulos will be in New York from March 28 - April 6. One lucky player will be selected to attend a trial with the Greek National Team of their age group. Past winners include Missouri Commit Point Guard Nikki Kerstein from Deerfield, Illinois and Center Alexandros Gklaros Stavropoulos of San Francisco, California. AHEPA HISTORY - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Chapter #26 sponsored a "Pihos - Mackrides" Day to honor Pete Pihos and Bill Mackrides, members of the Philadelphia Eagles football team, national footballleague champions. The special day was held on Nov. 28, 1948 during the game between the Eagles and the Steelers.

The 16th Annual Basketball Teddy K Classic in memory of Teddy Kariotis will be the last of
the Greek Hoop Tournaments Tour. The tournament attracts over 20 teams to Hellenic College in Brookline, Massachusetts. Director Tony Kariotis can be reached at 617-590-8051. The tournament will be held on April 30-May 4 in the “Athens of America” Boston.

Greek American Sports on our next post full article March Madness will feature some
of our athletes that reached the milestone of 1,000 points in high school and college. How about a 2,000-point high school women’s scorer, two College March Madness Greek-American commentators and more hoop. A Megalo F Harry Stowe “EFXARISTO” to everyone who has supported all of our grass roots effort on our platforms on the web on our Sports News, especially on Instagram, Tik Tok, Facebook, and other Greek-American, Greek and Cypriot sites that shared our Greek-American athletes stories and accomplishments. The response has been amazing! We have been told by community leaders that the Greek American Sports Initiative work is incredibly important to our community and is really important for our young Greek American Athletes to be featured, promoted, and finally have a voice. All Greek- American Athletes at the high school to college level have represented our heritage with great pride and for nearly 100 years and have made a positive societal impact. Our vision became a reality that has grown to highlight other Greek sporting events worldwide from the Olympics, FIBA Basketball, Paralympics, Soccer, Boxing, and more.
